Best Restaurants in Split (and Snacks)

I just finished writing about the best things to do in Split and this post will be about the best things to eat in Split! When traveling, food is a huge priority for us as it’s a reflection of the history and culture of the destination. We spend a lot of time researching to make sure every meal counts. This post will share the best restaurants in Split as well as the best bars, best gelato, and best coffee! I usually try to find the hidden gem restaurants that’s not #1 on Tripadvisor. So I hope you find some new information compared to other travel posts!

Best Restaurants in Split Croatia

Krug – If you choose one fine dining experience, I would highly recommend Krug! It is a modern intimidate space with bar seating for 12. The service, food, wine, and atmosphere were all top notch and world class. We did the 5 course tasting menu for 80 euros which was a steal! In July 2025, they announced that they received a Michelin Star!

Kuzina – I have never gone to the same restaurant twice while traveling so this is saying a lot! We went to Kuzina for dinner, and it was so delicious that we went back the next day for lunch so we can try more options. The best items to get are the fish with a tomato pasteand burrata salad. The owners are the same as the popular Corto Maltese. This is definitely one of the best restaurants in Split!

Sette Sorelle – I was initially skeptical because this restaurant is rated 4.9 on Google Maps with over 8,000 reviews, but honestly, this was the best pizza I’ve had in my life. The restaurant has a beautiful upstairs patio so if you get seated on the street, ask for space upstairs! It’s also next to the clock tower so you really feel the blend of history and modern during dinner. There are a few traditional options but also many unique flavors like this shrimp pizza I ordered.

Sandwich Bar Focaccina – For a quick meal that’s easy on the wallet, you can grab an authentic Italian sandwich at Sandwich Bar Focaccina. The toppings are pretty classic consisting of pesto, tomato, argula and cheese. I prefer a more flavorful sandwich but my husband loved this.

Best Bars in Split Croatia

We have some delicious wine during our 3 days in Hvar, but since Split is a bigger city, I wanted check out the cocktail scene. My top pick would be Bar Sistema. They have a nice selection of unique cocktails with balanced flavors and many exciting infusions. The interior is stunning as well with a floor to ceiling liquor shelf behind the bar.

Best Gelato in Split Croatia

During our 3 days in Split, we probably had 8 servings of gelato! However, there was one shop that was head and shoulders above the rest – Gelateria Emiliana. We went back to this one shop at least 6 times! The flavors were unique and intense and we wanted to try the whole menu. Watch out though as there is a “fake” just around the corner.

Although aMare and Bilisan are highly rated, I did not really enjoy the flavors in either shops.

Best Coffee in Split Croatia

The best way to beat the summer heat in Croatia is by going to a coffee shop with AC in the afternoon.

Brasserie on 7 – Normally I avoid restaurants that are by main tourist attractions as I feel I’ll just be scammed. But we enjoyed a nice morning coffee at Brasserie on 7. The price was fair and the coffee was surprisingly delicious. This restaurant is right on the Split Riva so it’s perfect for people watching too.

Stow – This coffee shop comes up on a lot of YouTube videos and travel guides. The interior is minimal and hipster. We ordered two iced drinks but the menu also serves cocktails and food. Lots of seating outside in the patio space but we chose to hide out inside with some wonderful AC.

Kava2 – On our last day, we visited kava2 and this is probably my favorite coffee shop of the trip! The quality and taste is very similar to Stow but the pricing is a bit cheaper! They focus more solely on coffee but have a few seasonal drinks available. If you fall in love with them, you can visit their original location on Hvar Island.

So there you have it! Some curated recommendations for things to eat, drink, and snack on in Split Croatia!
